Super legislation and regulatory update

The June quarter was a quiet time for super related legislation, with the Federal government going into care-taker mode in April ahead of the 3 May election. Parliament only sat again in late July.

APRA released its Quarterly Superannuation Performance publication report for the March 2025 quarter.

  • Total superannuation assets declined by 0.8% over the quarter to $4.1 trillion as at March 2025, of which $2.9 trillion was in APRA-regulated funds.
  • Total contributions increased by 14.4% to $202.8 billion in the year ending in March 2025.
  • Benefit payments increased by 11.6% to $127.5 billion in the year ending in March 2025.

In May, Australian Retirement Trust welcomed its 2.4 millionth member. As at 30 June 2025, ART was responsible for ~$350 billion in Funds Under Administration (FUA) on behalf of ~2.4 million members.
