Celebrating our 2024 World Teachers’ Day winners
We asked teachers to share their most unforgettable teaching moments for World Teachers’ Day – and wow, did they deliver!
Choosing just 2 winners from non-government schools from across the nation was incredibly tough. The stories we received were heartwarming and inspiring, and showcased the incredible impact teachers have every day.
A big thank you to all our nominees
To everyone who took the time to nominate a teacher: thank you. You've helped shine a light on the incredible work happening in classrooms. Our teachers are building brighter futures for the next generation, and we're proud to support them.
What’s in store for our winners?
Each winner will get a $1,150 prize pack which includes a:
- $150 Coles Myer gift card for themselves
- $1,000 Officeworks gift card for their school to support student education.1
Congratulations to our winners!
This year’s winners were Melbourne-based teachers Laren du Toit and Mackay- based Tiaan Kruis, whose experiences underlined their dedication and passion for teaching.
Lauren revealed her most unforgettable teaching moment was when a student who had been struggling with letters and sounds, numbers and socialising skills began to make connections with their learning.
The student not only began to write sentences and recognise numbers, but also developed a great group of friends.
Tiaan was nominated by colleague Zelda McClintock who said his innovative teaching methods were inspiring and helped create a dynamic learning environment.
'He has a unique way of making complex concepts accessible and enjoyable for his students. He has an ability to connect with students and build trust. It is truly remarkable,’ said Zelda. ‘His enthusiasm for English (the subject he teaches) is contagious. It’s clear that he not only knows the material but also genuinely enjoys sharing it with his students.’
